Before mountains rose, before oceans formed, before angels spread their wings — there was Light.
Not just any light. A radiant, living, conscious Light — the Nur of Muhammad ﷺ, the first creation of Allah.
This is the narration attributed to Sayyiduna Jabir ibn Abdullah, preserved by Imam ʿAbd al‑Razzaq, the teacher of Imam Ahmad and the grand‑teacher of Imam al‑Bukhari and Imam Muslim. It is one of the most beloved descriptions of how creation began.
🌌 “O Jabir…” — The Beginning of Everything
Sayyiduna Jabir once asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
“May my parents be sacrificed for you — tell me, what was the first thing Allah created?”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:“ O Jabir, the first thing Allah created was the light of your Prophet from His own Light.”
This Light existed in the realm of Divine Power — long before the Pen, the Tablet, the Throne, the heavens, the earth, the sun, the moon, angels, jinn, or humans.
Nothing else had yet been brought into existence. Only the Light of Muhammad ﷺ, shining in the unseen.
🖋️ The Light Divides — Creation Begins
When Allah willed to create the universe, He divided this Light into four parts:
- From the first, He created the Pen.
- From the second, the Tablet.
- From the third, the Throne.
- The fourth part was divided again into four:
From these came the Kursī, the angels, the gardens of Paradise, the sun and stars, and the light of knowledge, wisdom, and guidance.
Everything noble, luminous, and blessed — its origin was the Light of Muhammad ﷺ.
🕊️ The Twelve Veils of Light
- Allah then placed the Prophetic Light within twelve veils, each one shaping a quality of the Messenger ﷺ:
- Nobility
- Felicity
- Awe
- Mercy
- Tenderness
- Knowledge
- Forbearance
- Dignity
- Tranquility
- Patience
- Truthfulness
- Certainty
- When the Light emerged from these veils, it illuminated the entire earth — east to west — like a lamp in the darkest night.
🌍 The Architecture of the Universe
- The Light continued to divide:
- From one part came the bearers of the Throne.
- From another, the Kursī.
- From another, the angels.
- Then the heavens, the earths, Paradise and Hell.
- Then the light of the believers’ eyes, hearts, and souls — the light of Tawḥīd.
- Everything that recognizes Allah… Everything that loves Allah… Everything that obeys Allah… Its ability to do so comes from this Light.
🌟 124,000 Drops of Light
- Allah gazed upon the Nur of Muhammad ﷺ. Out of modesty, the Light perspired — and 124,000 drops fell.
- From each drop, Allah created the soul of a Prophet or Messenger.
- Their souls exhaled, and from that exhalation Allah created the awliyā, the martyrs, the righteous, and the obedient believers until the Day of Judgment.
- Every Prophet’s soul… Every saint’s heart… Every believer’s guidance… All trace back to the original Light.
👶 The Journey of the Light Through Humanity
- Then Allah created Adam and placed the Prophetic Light in his forehead.
- From Adam it passed to Sheeth, then from one pure heart to another, one noble lineage to another — always protected, always carried by the most virtuous of humanity.
- Until it reached ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbd al‑Muṭṭalib, and from him into the womb of Aminah.
- And then — the Light appeared in this world as Muhammad ﷺ, the master of all Messengers, the seal of Prophets, the guide of the purified.
🌙 This is how the story of your Prophet began, O Jabir.
- A universe built from Light. A creation shaped by Light. A humanity guided by Light. All beginning with the Light of Muhammad ﷺ.
