According to Al-Bukhaari (7418), Imraan ibn Husayn (رضي الله عنه) was questioned by some Yemeni citizens regarding the state of affairs from the start by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم). “There was Allah, and there was nothing before Him, and His throne was upon the water,” he declared. Then He made the earth and the sky, and He recorded everything in the preserved tablet known as al-Lawh al-Mahfooz.
Throne is the Roof of Paradise
The Prophet(pbuh) said: “If you ask Allah, then ask him the (Paradise) Firdaws, for it is in the highest point of Paradise, and above it is the Throne of the Most Merciful, and from it burst the rivers of Paradise.”
Al-ʿArsh ( Throne ) is believed to be the largest of all the creation of Allah.
The Quran mentions the throne some 20 times such as in verses like:

ON TOP AND BOTTOM OF ARSH SOMETHING IS WRITTEN
There’s something written on top of the Arsh.
Allah wrote it in his book and he stored it on top of the arsh. It’s a few words ;
” My mercy precedes my anger”
.At the bottom it is written لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّٰهِ ٱلْعَلِيِّ ٱلْعَظِيمِ (lā ḥawla wa-lā quwwata ʾillā bi-llāhi l-ʿaliyyi l-ʿaẓīmi), meaning “There is no power nor strength except by Allah the Lofty, the Great”. What’s the relationship between the two?
Allah is teaching us how he deals with his servants .How he deals with us !He deals with us with mercy and compassion and under the Arsh what is written is how we are supposed to deal with Allah.
My brothers and sisters, these are the two things written in the Arsh of Allah: mercy comes before anger, and sincere repentance comes before sin.
No matter what wrong you do, no matter what sin you have committed that has angered Allah, you can always ask for forgiveness, do tawba, return to Allah, and show sincere repentance. Allah is so merciful that he will forgive all of your mistakes and sins, embrace you, and always make the dhikr of Allah because this is the dhikr that is written bottom, meaning there is no one more powerful than Allah .
ANGELS WHO BEAR THE THRONE OF ALLAH
A group of angels called the Hamalat al-Arsh carry God’s throne in paradise. The Hamalat al-Arsh focus mainly on worshiping Allah.
In verse 7 to 14,surah al Ghafir: it was said:
الَّذِينَ يَحْمِلُونَ الْعَرْشَ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُ :Those who are bearing the Throne and those who are around it.
On the Day of Judgment, they will be eight, and only Allah knows the number of angels around the arsh.
Some Hadith narrations give the number of their rows that reaches several hundred thousand. They are called: کرّوبِی (karrubi) . They are angels close to Allah. In this verse, it has been said that all these angels close to Allah pray for all believers, particularly those who repent from their sins and follow the Shari’ah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ . Either Allah Ta’ ala has appointed them to perform this task, or their nature is such that they keep praying for the good servants of Allah.
Therefore, Sayyidna Mutarrif Ibn Abdullah Ibn Shikhkhir said that out of all servants of Allah, the angels of Allah are the foremost among those who wish well for believers.
Firstly, they pray for them.
Second, they implore Allah to forgive them,
Thirdly , save them from the punishment of Jahannam and to admit them to the everlasting gardens of Jannah.
Along with it, they also pray for: وَمَن صَلَحَ مِنْ آبَائِهِمْ وَأَزْوَاجِهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّاتِهِمْ
those who did good from among their fathers and wives and children. – 40:8)
that is, admit anyone from among their fathers and forefathers, and their wives, and their children – who meet the criterion of goodness that makes them deserving of forgiveness, a criterion that requires that they should have departed from the mortal world while adhering to their ‘iman or faith – yes, admit them too with the same believers into the Jannah.
This tells us that one’s ‘iman or faith is the basic condition of salvation (najah). After ‘iman come other good deeds.
The relatives of Muslim believers – fathers, grandfathers or wives and children – even if they are ranked lower than them, such is the mercy of Allah Ta’ ala that He would, in deference to them, also let the relatives of a lesser rank be along with them in Jannah, so that their happiness becomes total and complete as it has been said in another verse of the Qur’an appearing elsewhere: We will join their children with them At-Tur(52:21).
Said Ibn Jubayr has said, ‘When a believer goes to Jannah, he will ask about his father, son, brother and others and would want to know where they are. He will be told that their deeds were not like yours (therefore, they will not be there). He will say, ‘whatever good I did (was not for me alone), in fact, it was for me and them both.’ Then, the command will come, ‘admit them too into the Jannah.’ (Ibn Kathir)
Āyat al-Kursī: The Throne Verse
There is no god except Allah, the Ever-Watchful and the Ever-Living. He is not overcome by sleep or slumber. He is the owner of the earth and everything in the heavens. Who among us has the authority to appeal to Him unless He grants it? He is aware of everything that is ahead and behind them, yet they are only able to understand what He desires. He is not tired in maintaining both the earth and the skies, where His throne sits. He is the Almighty, the Magnificent
The āyat has collected many beautiful names of Allah, particularly it consists of al-Ism al-Aʿẓam, (the greatest name of Allah) . By using this name in duas ,the prayer will always be heard.
Surah Al-Baqarah,verse 255 is known as “the Verse of the Throne” or in Arabic Ayat al-Kursi. This is because it declares: His throne extends over the heavens and the Earth.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said :A Muslim is advised to read this verse each night.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asserted that anyone who reads this verse before the night sleep ,he/she will be assigned an angel by Allah to watch over them, preventing Satan from getting near them while they sleep.
It is also highly advised that you read this verse following each of the five required daily prayers.
Whoever recites The Verse of the Throne immediately after each prescribed prayer, there will be nothing standing between him and his entering Paradise except death. (Sunan al-Nasa’i and Sahih Ibn Hibban)
Powerful Verses That Get Rid of Satan
The verse brilliantly expresses our faith in Allah and highlights His magnificence by listing several of His names and qualities.
“There is no God but He” relates to His deity and monotheistic beliefs. Then it says that He is “Living” and “Self-Sustaining,” and right after that it says that He is not troubled by exhaustion or lack of sleep.
Reciting this line in the morning will also prevent jinn from bothering someone until the evening, and reciting it in the evening will prevent jinn from bothering someone until the morning.
7 Under the Shade of Allah’s Throne
According to Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared, “On a day when there is no shade save His, there are seven people whom Allah will shade:
- a just ruler
- a man who is tempted by a wealthy and attractive woman but rejects her, stating that he fears Allah
- a young person who was raised in the worship of Allah
- a person whose heart is connected to mosques
- two people who love each other and meet and part from each other for the sake of Allah
- someone who gives to charity and hides it so that his right hand does not know what his left hand has given
- and someone who remembered Allah in private and he wept.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
The Footstool (Kursi) of Allah
Nothing is concealed from Allah, who is seated above the Throne, and the Kursi is a footstool that resembles a stairway leading to the Throne.
All of the world and the sky are beneath the Kursi, or Footstool, alone (Quran 2:255).
“The Footstool in relation to the Throne is no more than a ring of iron thrown into an open desert on earth,” the Prophet Muhammad declared. (Tabari Tafsir). We cannot possibly estimate the power of Allah Himself, and we have no idea how big the Throne is.The Arsh is described as being much larger and higher than the Kursi.
Allah is not far away; the entire Quran emphasizes that He is always there with us, no matter where we are.
In Surah al-Hadid (Chapter 57), just after Allah declares that He has ascended above His throne, He informs us that He is aware of every single thing that enters and exits the earth, as well as everything that descends and ascends from the heavens—in other words, He is aware of every single detail of everything (Quran 57:4). Allah is Omnipotent and has complete comprehension, being seated above His throne.
“The seven heavens in comparison to the Kursī is nothing but like a ring thrown in a desert, and the excellence of the ʿArsh (Throne of Allāh) over the Kursī is like the excellence of that desert over that ring,” according to Abu Dharr al-Ghifārī, who quoted the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وسلم).
Ibn Mas’ood (رضي الفه عنه) is reported to have stated: “There is a distance of five hundred years between the first heaven and the one above it.” There are five hundred years of distance between each of the heavens. There are five hundred years separating the Kursi from the seventh heaven. The Throne is above the water, and there are five hundred years separating the Kursi from the water. Above the Throne is Allah, and nothing whatsoever of your deeds is hidden from Him.
Hudhayfah related: “I have received these last two verses of Surat al-Baqarah from the treasures beneath the Throne,” declared the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Before me, no prophet had been given anything like those. Source: 2325 Musnad Ahmad.Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Arna’ut.
Six facts about the Throne of Allah to help us understand the greatness of Allah and His creation:
The Throne (Al-Arsh) is Allah’s First and Greatest Creation
The Prophet ﷺsaid, “First of all, there was nothing but Allah, and then He created His Throne. His throne was over the water, and He wrote everything in the Book and created the Heavens and the Earth.” (Bukhari)
The Throne of Allah is on Water
“And it is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days – and His Throne had been upon water…” (Quran 11:7)
The Prophet ﷺ was asked, “ Where was Allah before He created His creation?’ He said: “He was above the clouds, below which was air, and above which was air and water. Then He created His Throne above the water.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)
The Bearers of the Throne
The Prophetﷺ said, “I have been permitted to tell about one of Allah’s angels who bears the throne that the distance between the lobe of his ear and his shoulder is a journey of seven hundred years.” (Sunan Abi Dawud)
God tells us that those angels who bear His Throne and those around it glorify His praises, believe in Him and ask for forgiveness for those who believe. They pray for them saying “Our Lord, You have encompassed all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way and protect them from the punishment of Hellfire.” (Quran 40:7)
They are glorifying Allah and declaring His perfection to show that He is independent of the Throne and is independent of those who bear the Throne. Allah does not need the Throne nor does not need those who bear the Throne.
Glorifying Allah reaches the Throne
The Messenger of Allahﷺ said: “What you mention of glory of Allah, of Tabsih (Subhan-Allah), Tahlil (Allahu-Akbar) and Tahmid (Al-Hamdu lillah), revolves around the Throne, buzzing like bees, reminding of the one who said it. Wouldn’t any one of you like to have, or continue to have, something that reminds of him (in the presence of Allah)?’” (Sunan Ibn Majah)
Allah’s Mercy is mentioned over the Throne
Allah’s Messengerﷺ said, “When Allah completed the creation, He wrote in His Book which is with Him on His Throne, “My Mercy overpowers My Anger.” (Bukhari)
Al-Firdaws (The Highest Paradise) is directly under the Throne of Allah
The Messenger of Allahﷺ said: ‘Paradise has one hundred grades, each of which is as big as the distance between heaven and earth. The highest of them is Firdaws and the best of them is Firdaws. The Throne is above Firdaws and from it spring forth the rivers of Paradise. If you ask of Allah, ask Him for Firdaws.’” (Sunan Ibn Majah)
Throne has Pillars
On the Day of Resurrection, the people will go unconscious, and I will be the first to awaken. When I do, I will see Musa clinging to one of the throne’s pillars,” the Prophet(pbuh) declared. Then I will not know whether he regained consciousness before me or he has been exempted because of his unconsciousness at the mountain of Toor (at Sinai)“.
Mujahid stated: “Allah Almighty created four things with His hand: Adam, upon whom be peace, the Throne, the Pen, and the Paradise.” May Allah be pleased with Ibn Umar. Then He commanded the rest of creation to “Be, and it happened.”
